Training with Feldesman Tucker

Legal Issues in Head Start:  Compliance, Monitoring and other Hot Topics

Our Training with Feldesman Tucker focuses on ensuring that both new and long time Head Start and Early Head Start programs understand the legal issues surrounding Compliance Issues and Monitoring in Head Start.  As developments regarding Head Start eligibility practices over the past year in Head Start demonstrate, these issues matter.  Join us to learn what good compliance practices are, and learn how to draw new tips from the OHS monitoring system.  This live training will help your program comply with the rules and give you ideas on how to decrease your program’s exposure to risk and consequences.

Specifically, we’ll cover a series of linked and related topics, including:
  • Conducting Internal Investigations;
  • Establishing a Culture of Compliance;
  • Preparing for, Responding to and Challenging Government Audits;
  • Clues You can Draw from Head Start Monitoring; and
  • A discussion of New and Hot Topics in Head Start.

When?

A 1.5-day live training session:  Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 9a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday, December 3, 2010, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m, pacific time.

Who are the Trainers?

Edward T. Waters, Esq., Managing Partner, Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell LLP

J.  Zoë Beckerman, Esq., Partner, Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell LLP, Managing Principal, FT Solutions

Ted Waters and Zoë Beckerman represent Head Start and Early Head Start organizations across the country.  They also present webinars for the National Head Start Association’s Legal Advisory Service (“LAS”) year-round.  For years, the LAS has provided high quality, cost effective training for Head Start agencies.  In all of their trainings — both live and online — Ted and Zoë identify and break down the laws and regulations that govern Head Start management, what each means on a practical level, and how you can help ensure that your program is in and will stay in compliance.

Target Audiences

This training is appropriate for Executive Directors, Head Start Directors, Compliance Officers, Compliance Committee members of the Board, Other Senior Management, but all are welcome.

What Materials Do You Get?

Due to our extensive Head Start experience, we know what questions and concerns plague Head Start organizations.   So we’ve prepared materials to address these issues.  We do our best to ensure that all participants receive the most up-to-date information, presented in easy-to-understand formats.

To provide you with the tools you need to do your job, this session delivers handouts that include checklists, practical tips, and step-by-step instructions for you to take back to your organization.

In addition, we’re going green!  We’ll provide each participant with a 2-gig thumb drive of your very own that includes copious amounts of supporting laws, regulations, and documentation needed in Head Start and Early Head Start.  But don’t worry, there’s plenty of room to spare on the thumb drives, so you can keep using yours long after the live training session!  (Another benefit: a thumb drive library much easier to transport home!)

Other Details

Participants will be on their own for meals, including lunches.
Adequate breaks will be interspersed through both days.
